MP 20 - 1.9

Higher compaction for mixed waste and plastic film waste

The initial situation

Frankfurt Airport generates around 200 tonnes of mixed waste annually, as well as a further 200 tonnes of mixed plastic film waste from the cleaning of commercial aircraft cabins.

These large volumes of waste must be reliably collected, compacted and transported away. Particularly in the sensitive environment of airport operations, efficient processes, a high level of operational safety and the best possible utilisation of the containers used are crucial.

The challenge

The aim was to significantly increase the fill weight per emptying and thus make better use of the existing transport capacities.

At the same time, the number of necessary emptying operations and transport journeys was to be reduced. In addition to high compaction performance, safety aspects and reliable digital monitoring of the machines also played an important role.

The solution

In a field trial at Meinhardt Städtereinigung, the PÖTTINGER MP 20-1.9 compactor container proved its worth by delivering a significant increase in loading weight.

For mixed waste, it achieves around 7.5 tonnes per collection – equivalent to an increase of around 30% compared with the solutions previously used. For plastic film waste, the compactor achieves around 8.2 tonnes per collection, representing an increase in fill weight of approximately 12%.

In addition, the MP 20-1.9 is equipped with the falconic digital platform, which allows machine status and relevant operating data to be monitored. An integrated fire suppression pipe provides additional safety – an important factor in the sensitive airport environment.

The higher fill weight allows existing transport capacities to be utilised more effectively, reduces the frequency of emptying and makes waste disposal logistics more efficient.

“A highly professional collaboration, high-quality machines and reliable, competent handling of all tasks assigned.”

Efficient Disposal of Solid and Liquid Residues

The initial situation

At Frankfurt Airport, specific solid and liquid residues from aircraft accumulate in the passenger and animal transport areas, placing particularly high demands on hygiene, safety and disposal.

These include, amongst other things, faecal matter as well as residues from sieves and gratings, which must be reliably collected, compacted and then properly removed.

The challenge

The variety of residues places high demands on the technology used. Both liquid and solid components must be processed equally safely, without causing contamination or leaks.

At the same time, given the ongoing airport operations, a solution is required that is easy to operate, allows for high loading weights and operates reliably even under demanding operating conditions.

The solution

The BioCubePress MP 1.4 from PÖTTINGER is in use at Frankfurt Airport.

The integrated lifting and tipping mechanism allows waste residues to be conveniently loaded into the compactor container and then compacted directly on site. The liquid-tight design ensures that even challenging solid and liquid residues can be collected hygienically and safely.

The tried-and-tested operating principle enables easy handling and high compaction performance. With fill weights of up to 8.5 tonnes per emptying, the available transport volume is utilised efficiently.

Meinhardt Städtereinigung GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for the disposal of the compacted material, thereby ensuring smooth and professional removal.
